Confidential Email Reveals Compromise in January 2017 Intelligence Report
Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, has disclosed a confidential email suggesting that former DNI James Clapper had ordered a deviation from standard protocols regarding the January 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) report.
In a post on X, Gabbard shared a snapshot of an email exchange between Clapper and ex-NSA chief Mike Rogers. Clapper stated in the emails that it was “critical” for the CIA, NSA, FBI, and ODNI to be aligned.
Furthermore, Clapper noted that due to the urgency of the situation, they might need to adjust the usual processes. Specifically, he said, “Because this needs to be done with a compression schedule like this, you may need to compromise on the ‘regular’ modality.”
According to Gabbard, this newly classified email, dated December 22, 2016, complied with President Obama’s directive to produce the January 2017 ICA regarding Russia. She argued that this revealed Clapper’s push for information linking the intelligence community to the so-called Russian hoax.
Gabbard emphasized that Clapper was viewed as part of a “team sport,” necessitating compromises on procedural norms.
Before Clapper’s email, Rogers had sent a communication to Clapper, along with former CIA director John Brennan and former FBI director James Comey, indicating a rapid assembly of the necessary materials to present to the President.
Rogers stated, “I asked the team if they had adequate access to the underlying intelligence and enough time to evaluate it.” He expressed concern that his team felt pressed for time to thoroughly assess everything, despite their eagerness to ensure a proper review.
Earlier, Breitbart News reported that Gabbard had received information from whistleblowers regarding the January 2017 ICA report. These whistleblowers alleged that they were coerced by supervisors to endorse the controversial findings of the report.
One whistleblower refuted the ICA’s conclusions, asserting that contrary to assertions, Russia was not intent on supporting Donald Trump in 2016, expressing their unease based on the information available to them.
