NFL owners and executives had a heated discussion on Wednesday regarding the fate of the Tush Push play.
The push to ban this contentious move ultimately fell short. So, despite the Green Bay Packers’ challenges, it remains a legal tactic in the league.
However, the topic ignited some intense exchanges during the league meeting in Minnesota, as reported by ESPN.
The Eagles’ owner, Jeffrey Lurie, made a somewhat blunt remark amid a fervent defense of the play, comparing it to “Wet Dreams for a Teenager.”
Lurie assured his fellow owners that the outcome was positive for him, regardless of whether the Tush Push gets banned.
He elaborated that he crafted a very effective play, and it seemed to him that other teams were searching for ways to eliminate it.
Troy Vincent, the NFL’s vice president of football operations, cautioned Lurie about making “wet dream” comments in a mixed-gender setting.
After Lurie’s lengthy address, Jed York, the 49ers’ owner, reportedly joked about how many more questionable statements he needed to make.
While Cowboys owner Jerry Jones asked a few questions, Bills owner Terry Pegula expressed his support for the ban, even though his team is known for effectively using the Tush Push.
The motion to change the rules was ultimately rejected, receiving fewer than the necessary 24 votes.
Adam Schefter of ESPN indicated that teams including the Eagles, Ravens, Browns, Lions, Jaguars, Dolphins, Patriots, Saints, Jets, and Titans all voted against the proposal.
Following the vote, the Eagles’ social media team appeared to poke fun at the Packers, posting an image that included “push-on” superimposed over a picture showcasing the Eagles’ match against Green Bay.
