On July 16, the day before the shootout, 22-year-old Jayuntae Gregory shot two family members in their home, shooting one victim eight times in the body and the other twice in the chest. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.Police have opened a criminal investigation into the incident and the victims remain hospitalized in serious condition.
“Don’t kill me. [my] Baby… he shot both my cousins… yeah.”
Police interviewed two of Gregory’s brothers and his father, the paper said, with one of the brothers saying Gregory fired a Draco rifle inside the house and had a mental illness. The brother told police Gregory “killed” two family members as he fled the house, the paper added.
The criminal complaint also included details of a shootout that took place the following day at a gas station in the 4300 block of West Capitol Drive, according to the paper. Police were notified by the suspect’s family that he was at the scene, according to WISN.
Gregory had been inside the gas station buying two bottles of water when police arrived outside and confronted his father, who told the officers, “Don’t kill me. [my] “Babe… he shot my two cousins… yeah, he’s dead,” the Journal Sentinel noted.
Officers yelled at Gregory to drop his bag and put his hands up, but he walked to the front door and asked, “For me?” the paper reported.

Gregory then removed an AK-47-style rifle from his backpack and hid behind merchandise in the store, the Journal Sentinel reported.
Two officers entered the store and ordered Gregory to hand over his hands, but he fired multiple shots at the officers, who then retreated, the paper reported.

Gregory opened the door multiple times, according to the Journal Sentinel.
The suspect is seen on other security footage outside the store. 10 minutes later He appeared to come out of the store and began firing shots at officers.
Police shot and killed Gregory as he tried to flee the store, the newspaper said.

The suspect was arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to WISN.
According to the newspaper, Gregory was charged with four counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide, one count of first-degree reckless endangerment, one count of failing to comply with the orders of a police officer and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.
The next hearing is scheduled for Aug. 16, when a doctor’s certificate on whether the defendant is fit to stand trial will be presented, according to the Journal Sentinel.
The officers were placed on administrative assignment, according to WISN.

The paper reported that when Gregory was 17 years old, Armed Robbery in 2019 He pleaded guilty to the murder at the restaurant and was sentenced to two years in prison and four years of probation, the Journal Sentinel reported, citing state court records.
