Inter Miami announced on Tuesday that they have hired Javier Mascherano as their next head coach, signing a contract with the new captain until 2027. Mascherano is a former Barcelona, Liverpool and Argentina defender. The live performance will be Mascherano's. First management position in club soccer.
Mascherano will take the keys from Gerardo Martino, who recently announced he was leaving his post for “personal reasons” after a year and several changes as leader of the Herons. Mascherano will start working for Lionel Messi & Co. once his work documents are ready. For the past three years, Mascherano has been the coach of the Argentina U-20 national team, coaching the team to the last 16 of the 2021 U-20 World Cup. He then led the team to a runner-up finish at the 2024 Summer Olympics. They lost to France in the quarterfinals.
Mascherano and Messi were teammates for eight seasons at Barcelona, winning the Champions League together in 2011 and 2015. In addition to that, he also won five La Liga titles. They were also teammates on the Argentina national team, which won a gold medal at the 2008 Olympics.
