Michigan Wolverines Football Team Reacts to Coaching Changes

In light of the recent firing and arrest of former Michigan coach Sherone Moore, players from the Wolverine football team are feeling “betrayed,” according to interim head coach Biff Poggi during a press conference on Monday.

Poggi has taken on the challenging role of steering the team through the aftermath of Moore’s dramatic exit. Moore was dismissed last week due to an inappropriate relationship with a female staff member, followed by his arrest for breaking into another staff member’s home.

Subsequently, he faced legal repercussions, including a felony charge for third-degree burglary, along with two misdemeanor charges for domestic stalking and trespassing.

As the team gears up to compete against No. 13 Texas in the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Eve, Poggi opened up to the media, sharing his thoughts on the players’ sentiments following their earlier loss.

“It was a tumultuous time,” Poggi explained. “There’s a lot of disbelief and anger. The kids, frankly, feel very betrayed, and we’re just trying to navigate through this.” Since taking the helm, he has engaged in discussions with players and concerned parents who have been seeking clarity after the unsettling news broke.

Michigan State has initiated an investigation into the athletic department’s culture, contracting the law firm Jenner & Block to assess the situation.

Poggi has made it a priority to offer support to his players. “There are many ways to convey love, but showing it takes time and effort,” he mentioned. “Listening is key.” He emphasized the importance of understanding what his players and their families are experiencing, acknowledging that a mix of emotions is at play.

Continuing, he noted, “This won’t be resolved overnight. My responsibility, as directed by Warde Manuel, the athletic director, is to love and care for these kids, and that’s where I’m focusing my energy.”
