Intruder Shot by Homeowner in Florida

An armed man recently forced his way into a home in Florida, and after threatening the resident, he was shot by the homeowner, according to the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident took place on February 6 around 9:40 p.m. in the 5400 block of Touraine Drive in Tallahassee. Deputies were alerted to gunshots fired and arrived to find the intruder with a gunshot wound.

Authorities revealed that the man had entered the home without permission and ignored multiple requests to leave. He then advanced toward the homeowner while threatening him with a weapon.

In self-defense, the homeowner used a semi-automatic handgun to shoot the intruder, who was thereafter taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Following an investigation, 42-year-old Scott Scruggs was arrested and charged with armed entry and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He remained hospitalized before being taken into custody at the Leon County Detention Center.

Currently, Scruggs has no designated release date, and bail for the aggravated assault charge is set at $2,500. Records indicate a lengthy criminal history for Scruggs, including various offenses like assault and theft dating back to 2008.

Commenters on the sheriff’s office Facebook post expressed support for the homeowner’s actions, with one even cheering, “Stay strong, baby!” Others remarked on the situation, suggesting the intruder should have reconsidered his choices.
