Iowa, Florida Coaches Almost Start 'WWE Raw Is War' Brawl During Intense March Madness Surprise

March Madness Rivalry Heats Up

It seems some college basketball rivalries are trying to channel the intensity of the Attitude Era. Just take a look at what unfolded recently.

In the realm of college hoops, iconic matchups abound—think Duke vs. North Carolina, or Kentucky vs. Louisville. But a new episode might just deserve a spot in that conversation after Sunday’s events.

During the second round of the NCAA March Madness Tournament, a heated confrontation erupted between Iowa State’s head coach Ben McCollum and Florida State’s head coach Todd Golden. What started as a typical timeout discussion escalated into a fiery exchange, almost crossing the line into physicality. The intensity was palpable.

Earlier in the game, with 8:34 left in the first half, Iowa State was up 19-13 against the top-seeded Florida Gators thanks to some assertive play. A brief skirmish broke out as players went for a rebound, leading to both athletes involved, Alex Condon and Alvaro Folgueiras, receiving technical fouls.

It appeared Folgueiras was attempts to throw a punch, although it seems he didn’t make contact—perhaps just a misguided swing aimed at the ball. Regardless, emotions were running high, with both coaches teetering on the brink of explosion.

Golden was far from pleased with the double technical call. He firmly believed Folgueiras should have faced further consequences for his actions.

Following the scuffle, he let his frustrations be known: “Are you kidding me? You son of a bitch,” he exclaimed in reaction to the refs’ decisions.

The exact moment that sparked the coaches’ altercation isn’t totally clear, but it followed the tussle between Condon and Folgueiras.

As we all know, it’s March Madness, and the drama just keeps unfolding.
