Mysterious Iowa Real Estate Agent’s Death Finally Solved
The long-unsolved case of an Iowa real estate agent, shot at an open house 15 years ago, has recently seen progress, according to authorities.
Christine Elizabeth Ramsey, 53, has been indicted on first-degree murder charges concerning the April 8, 2011, death of Ashley Okland, a real estate agent in West Des Moines, as announced by the police on Tuesday.
Okland, who was just 27 at the time, suffered two gunshot wounds and was discovered on the floor of a model townhouse during an open house. An employee from the development company found her in the early afternoon. She was quickly transported to a nearby hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.
Ramsey worked as both an administrative assistant and sales manager for Rotrand Homes, the developer of the property where the incident took place.
Current information suggests that Ramsey is now affiliated with Midland Title and Escrow, which is linked to the real estate company where Okland was employed. Following the indictment, Ramsey’s name was removed from the company’s website.
As for the motive behind Okland’s murder, details remain unclear.
Assistant Police Chief Jody Hayes expressed that the case has profoundly affected the community of real estate professionals, highlighting changes in how open houses are conducted since the tragedy. “Ashley’s story weighs heavily on many of us,” he said, reflecting on the community’s efforts to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation involved countless tips from the public and numerous pieces of evidence relating to the murder. Despite the arrest, Hayes noted that the work is ongoing.
During a press conference, Okland’s brothers expressed their gratitude to the authorities and the community for their unwavering support throughout the years. “The day of Ramsey’s arrest is one we’ve thought about often,” Josh Okland remarked, while his sister Brittany Bruce added, “After so long, we had nearly lost hope for justice.” They expressed appreciation for the dedication shown by law enforcement in solving the case.
Currently, Ramsey is held at the Dallas County Jail as the investigation continues.
