Iran Denies UK Terror Attack Allegations
The Iranian foreign ministry rejected claims from Britain about their involvement in an attempted terrorist attack targeting a UK airbase that hosts American bombers. This statement was made via an X post on Monday.
Back in late September, several individuals were reportedly arrested near the RAF Fairford airbase in Gloucestershire, England, with explosives in their possession. UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham informed Parliament on Monday that it is “highly likely” the attack was organized in Iran, suggesting almost certainly by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The UK, along with allies like the United States, issued a joint statement on Monday alleging the IRGC’s connection to the incident. They noted that this incident underscores the IRGC’s persistent tendency to conduct hostile activities outside of its borders through covert networks and proxies.
The statement emphasized, “Anyone conducting hostile actions on Iran’s or any state’s behalf should be aware that we will act to identify, investigate, disrupt, and prosecute these endeavors.”
Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs dismissed the British claims as “unfounded,” urging accountability for the UK government regarding its actions that undermine international peace and security. The statement accused England of fabricating security issues against other nations, which have created tensions and conflicts in the West Asia region.
Furthermore, the post also included a statement in Farsi alongside a video that outlined purported “false flag attacks” by the Israeli government.
Previously, Iran’s Embassy to the UK denied any involvement, stating on X that Iran “reserves the right to take appropriate legal measures” to protect its interests in light of what they described as misleading media representation.
In a related note, President Donald Trump mentioned that the Pentagon decided to relocate its bombers from RAF Fairford after the incident in response to what was termed a “threat,” as reported by the BBC. “If we’re gonna be threatened, we’ll just move them, and that sort of alleviated that,” he remarked, adding that they know the source of the threat, which he claimed had “big problems.”
As of now, all seven suspects who were arrested in relation to the attempted bombing have been released on bail.
