Iran’s Stance on Nuclear Talks Amid Increased Tensions with Israel
Iranian officials indicated on Saturday that future participation in nuclear discussions with the U.S. might be reconsidered. However, they labeled any upcoming negotiations as “meaningless,” particularly in light of escalating confrontations with Israel.
Esmael Bagaei, a spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, mentioned during a press briefing, “We’ll see what decision is made on Sunday.”
Bagaei criticized the U.S. actions, stating, “They’ve made dialogue pointless. It’s not possible to negotiate while the Zionist regime targets Iranian land.”
A sixth round of talks between the U.S. and Iran is slated for Sunday in Oman, but Tehran had earlier declared it would withdraw from discussions following a surprise Israeli attack on Thursday.
Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr Albusadi, condemned Israel’s actions, calling the attack “illegal” and a serious threat to regional stability. He called for unity against such strikes, emphasizing the need for diplomatic solutions.
Iranian officials accused the Trump administration of facilitating the Israeli attack, asserting that the U.S. allowed it to happen. Secretary of State Marco Rubio denied any involvement in the initial strike but noted that the U.S. provided support to help Israel intercept Iranian missiles.
President Trump, speaking to reporters, stated that he was aware of Israel’s “Risingilion Operation,” which targeted Iran’s nuclear sites and missile facilities, before the assault occurred. He added that Prime Minister Netanyahu had cautioned that an attack would complicate nuclear deal discussions.
“We knew everything and were trying to prevent Iran’s humiliation and demise,” Trump emphasized. “They can still negotiate a deal; it’s not too late.”
The U.S. leader urged Iran to engage in discussions focused on dismantling its nuclear development.
Trump warned of greater destruction to come, stating, “The next planned attack will be even more severe.”
He urged Iran to finalize a deal before it was too late, hinting at potential consequences for the Iranian regime.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have already eliminated several high-ranking Iranian officials and nine engineers related to the nuclear initiative. In retaliation, Iran labeled the initial attack a “declaration of war,” promising to execute further responses.
Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warned that such actions would result in a “severely painful fate” for the Israeli regime.
