Navid Mohebi, a former Iranian political prisoner, believes that President Donald Trump’s firm approach towards the Iranian government provides a unique chance for significant change, as protesters resist a regime he describes as one of the world’s most oppressive. Mohebi argues that the current unrest in Iran, paired with U.S. leadership willing to confront Tehran, positions the country on the brink of transformation, with ripple effects potentially impacting U.S. national security and global stability.
“What’s happening now is a historic test, not just for Iran but for the entire world,” he stated during an appearance on “My Views with Lara Trump,” suggesting that the actions taken by Trump in the near future could alter the historical trajectory.
Mohebi emphasized that this moment could be pivotal, asserting, “This is one of those moments that, in my opinion, will be written down for generations to come.” He added that Trump’s legacy hangs in the balance, arguing that by supporting those striving for freedom, his administration could redefine America’s stance on the global stage.
He highlighted that Trump has a rare, impactful opportunity to align with the Iranian populace in their struggle for liberation, which could also serve U.S. interests by weakening a regime that funds terrorism and threatens global stability, including Trump’s own safety.
Mohebi asserted that recent protests saw millions of Iranians rallying, with security forces purportedly killing between 12,000 to 20,000 people, although these numbers remain contested. The Iranian Human Rights Activists News Agency estimates the fatalities at over 3,000 during the ongoing unrest, but official figures have not been released, complicating independent verification due to a nationwide internet blackout.
He drew attention to past clashes between Trump and Iran, including the 2020 assassination of Qassem Soleimani and attacks on Iran’s nuclear sites. “Today, Americans really understand why it’s essential. If a regime can massacre 20,000 of its own people, one can only imagine what it would do with nuclear weapons,” Mohebi remarked.
