Iran is responding to recent Israeli military actions by mobilizing a large number of drones. This comes after Israeli forces detained high-ranking commanders from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including their leader.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, warned that the Israeli administration should brace for significant repercussions. He expressed confidence that the Islamic Republic’s military would be capable of delivering a response, stating this in a post on X.
Reports from the Israeli Defense Forces indicate that Iran has launched over 100 drones aimed at Israel, as Israeli forces also continue their drone attacks in retaliation.
Defense spokesman Effie Defrin remarked that their defensive systems are currently engaged in countering these aerial threats. He noted the situation is notably different from previous encounters, suggesting that challenging times lie ahead.
This Iranian retaliation follows Israel’s recent offensive targeting military and nuclear sites. Notable figures, such as IRGC Commander Golam Ali Rashid and nuclear scientists Mohammad Medi Tehrencheslante and Feredun Abbasi, were taken by Israeli forces.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated in a video message that these operations are set to continue for an extended period, emphasizing the need to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. The operation, dubbed “Lion Lion,” aims specifically at undermining Iran’s nuclear aspirations.
In the midst of this, President Trump reiterated his firm stance against Iran, urging them to reach a nuclear agreement with the U.S. or face harsher repercussions. He highlighted the destruction already caused and warned that an even more severe offensive could be imminent.
Trump insisted that Iran needs to forge a deal soon, suggesting that failure to do so may lead to irreversible consequences for the nation, which he referred to as the former Iranian Empire.
He also commented on ongoing negotiations for a new nuclear deal, revealing that discussions between the U.S. and Iran had progressed for weeks, with the next meeting set to occur in Oman. However, Iran announced it would withdraw from this upcoming session.
This escalation follows indications from the Trump administration regarding a reduction of U.S. personnel in the Middle East.
