Iran has launched over 100 drones aimed at Israel, responding to the Jewish state’s recent airstrikes intended to cripple Tehran’s nuclear program.
“Recently, Iran has fired more than 100 drones towards Israeli territory,” confirmed IDF spokesperson Brigadier Effy Deflin on Friday. “We’re actively working to intercept this threat.”
Israeli forces have already started downing some of these drones outside of their territory, according to an IDF representative.
“The IDF has begun to intercept UAVs that were launched from Iran,” the official stated.
This retaliation from Tehran follows Israel’s “Lion Lion” operations, which targeted various sites in Iran’s capital on Thursday night, aiming to dismantle the country’s nuclear infrastructure, missile factories, and military sites.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remarked that this mission was crucial, describing it as a “brutal” effort to thwart Iran’s nuclear ambitions and to ensure Israel’s survival against decades of threats from Iranian leaders.
“We cannot pass these dangers onto the next generation,” Netanyahu emphasized in his address.
“If we don’t act now, there’s no future generation. We’ve learned from history. When the enemy declares intentions to destroy you—believe them,” he added.
Netanyahu asserted that he would continue the operations “for as long as needed to eliminate this threat.”
According to the IDF, approximately 200 Israeli fighter jets were deployed in the mission, targeting about 100 locations.
In response to the assault, Iranian officials have promised swift retaliation, with top leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warning that Israel should “expect a harsh response.”
