Iran Presents Ceasefire Proposal to U.S. via Pakistan

On Monday, Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported that the Iranian government has put together a 14-point ceasefire proposal, which was passed to a Pakistani intermediary to be communicated to the United States.

A source associated with the Iranian negotiating team indicated that the U.S. had recently responded to a similar 14-point proposal made by Iran earlier. This back-and-forth suggests that negotiations may still be ongoing.

The source noted that, in keeping with recent exchanges, the updated 14-point document was resent through Pakistan, along with some amendments. However, specifics on how this new proposal differs from the previous version—which was deemed unsatisfactory—were not disclosed.

Despite the apparent focus on “negotiations and confidence-building measures aimed at the U.S. to end hostilities,” the new plan raises concerns. It indicates that Iran may still be placing demands in exchange for making concessions.

In another report, Tasnim cited a source close to the Iranian negotiating team stating that the U.S. had accepted Iran’s “new offer to waive Iranian oil sanctions during the negotiation period.” However, conflicting views surfaced regarding sanctions, with Iran asserting that removing all sanctions should be part of the U.S. commitment, while the U.S. proposed only a temporary waiver of certain sanctions until a final agreement is reached.

While U.S. officials have not confirmed any such offer regarding oil sanctions, the rumors surrounding it have had an impact, with oil prices slightly dropping on Monday morning.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, whose actual influence in negotiations remains uncertain, commented that refusing to negotiate is illogical. He noted that it wouldn’t make sense to reject dialogue completely and emphasized the need to engage in discussions with dignity.

He added, with public support, that Iran can uphold its national rights and called for logical discourse in negotiations.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump expressed on Sunday that he has no plans to grant any unilateral oil concessions to Iran. He stressed the urgency of the situation, stating, “Time is of the essence!”

In a post on Truth Social, Trump laid out stringent conditions for Iran, including a figurative ‘surrender’ and public acknowledgment of military losses, painting a dramatic picture of Iranian troops abandoning their arms in defeat.
