Iran’s President Declares Diplomatic Talks with U.S. “Meaningless”
In recent comments, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian asserted that diplomatic discussions with the United States have lost their significance, citing ongoing military actions, economic sanctions, and what he described as “covert operations” by Washington.
Interestingly, analysts noted that his statements echo the sentiments expressed by former President Donald Trump and the Republican administration regarding Iran. It’s a bit… ironic, isn’t it?
During a meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in Tehran, Pezeshkian condemned what he perceives as the U.S.’s failure to uphold its commitments. He emphasized that constructive dialogue seems futile when faced with coercive tactics from the U.S.
According to the state-run news agency IRNA, Pezeshkian claimed that following diplomatic discussions, the U.S. has repeatedly targeted Iranian interests with military strikes. He suggested that the U.S. is more focused on destabilizing the Islamic Republic than seeking genuine peace or compromise.
He also raised doubts about the value of negotiations with a country that continually employs sanctions, economic pressure, threats, and targeted assassinations—essentially an “enemy” in his perspective.
This situation highlights a breakdown in the indirect communications and mediated discussions that had previously aimed to ease tensions and ensure maritime safety in the Strait of Hormuz, which is important for global trade.
By firmly closing the door on possible diplomatic engagements, Tehran seems to be signaling a definitive rejection of the U.S. demands, contributing to a deepening geopolitical standoff.
