Iranians Promise to Provide the U.S. with a Memorable Lesson

Iran’s Unyielding Stance Amid Escalating Conflict

On Friday, various Iranian officials reiterated a commitment to continue their conflict with the United States and Israel, dismissing the notion of any discussions. This follows a declaration from the foreign ministry stating that the U.S. would soon learn “unforgettable lessons.”

The U.S. has initiated Operation Epic Fury, targeting what it describes as Iran’s significant threat to regional and global security, given its position as a state sponsor of terrorism. On the first day of the operation, reports surfaced that President Donald Trump claimed to have effectively removed Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, leading to a power vacuum in the country as President Massoud Pezeshkian accepted the role himself.

Iran, in response, reportedly unleashed a wave of missile and drone strikes aimed at both American and Israeli targets. These strikes have reached several Middle Eastern nations, even those uninvolved in the conflict, including Azerbaijan, Turkey, Cyprus, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. Gulf states have expressed outrage, particularly at the missile attacks that appeared to target civilian areas. Notably, the UAE, part of the anti-American BRICS coalition alongside Iran, has been among the affected nations.

Esmail Bacaei, the spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, conveyed on Friday that Tehran is unwilling to entertain any talks regarding ending the conflict with the U.S. He stressed the futility of discussions that could simply lead to a repeat of previous violence. “Our military is resolved to impart an unforgettable lesson to our adversaries,” he stated.

The Iranian military reportedly issued a statement, in conjunction with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), threatening a “deeply remorseful response against our enemies.” This declaration emphasized seeking vengeance against those responsible for the death of Khamenei and other leaders, promising continued military action against U.S. and Israeli forces in the region.

This week, it was announced that Mojtaba Khamenei, the late supreme leader’s son, has been “designated” to take over leadership of the country after a council meeting. He’s unfamiliar to the public and has notably never held a formal office. At a recent event aimed at promoting his ascendency, organizers even showcased a cardboard cutout of him, raising eyebrows and questions about his capability to govern.

Khamenei’s first statement since his appointment reiterated his commitment to ongoing resistance against the U.S. “The public calls for sustained effective defense,” he conveyed in a televised address.

In a follow-up statement, Iran claimed that while limited retaliation has begun, they intend to escalate their efforts until their aims are fully realized, especially regarding the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. However, Iran’s UN envoy, Amir Saeed Iravani, later denied intentions to impede traffic through the strait, asserting their right to maintain peace there.

Despite the assertive statements, there’s been no sign of action from Khamenei since his official take over. Other officials, however, have been vocal, reiterating their unwillingness to consider peace talks. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, usually more moderate, emphasized in a conversation with India’s External Affairs Minister his nation’s firm resolve to keep fighting.

Araghchi also highlighted the critical role of BRICS, indicating the coalition’s importance for regional stability amid ongoing conflicts.

India, a BRICS member alongside Iran and the UAE, along with other partners like China and Russia, has shown verbal support for Tehran but little substantial backing during the current hostilities.
