Celebrations Erupt Among Iranians After Supreme Leader’s Death

In the wake of a significant attack by the United States and Israel on Tehran, the Iranian community worldwide is witnessing celebrations following the reported death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.

Videos circulating online show Iranians rejoicing and dancing after a missile strike hit the Iranian capital. The mood lifted significantly when officials confirmed that Khamenei, aged 86 and in power for 35 years, had died.

Shortly after 11 PM local time, footage emerged of residents in Tehran cheering from balconies and windows, expressing their relief and excitement.

Sana Ebrahimi, an Iranian expatriate, took to social media to share a joyful moment. She posted a video of herself celebrating to the tune of “YMCA,” expressing her exhilaration, “I’m Iranian and today is the best day of my life. Dictator and murderer Ali Khamenei is dead.”

Similarly, independent journalist Raheem J. Kassam shared a video from the White House where a sizable crowd waved American and Persian flags while the same song played. He remarked on the electrifying atmosphere, with “hundreds of Persians storm[ing] the White House to celebrate the overthrow of the Iranian Islamic regime.”

Before confirmation of Khamenei’s death, Iranians took to the streets across various countries—including Australia, Britain, Norway, Spain, and Germany—waving the historic Persian flag that features the lion and sun symbols, dating back to before the Islamic Revolution in the late 1970s.

Elsewhere, celebratory scenes were reported in Spain and Germany, where Iranian citizens expressed gratitude to the United States, President Trump, and Prime Minister Netanyahu for their military action against Iran.

Others in places like Newcastle, UK, raised flags from the U.S., Israel, the UK, and the pre-revolutionary Iran, with one person proclaiming, “President Trump kept his promise!”

Before the revolution, Iran was under the monarchy of the Pahlavi dynasty, which reigned from 1925. The shah’s modernization initiatives during the mid-20th century helped develop infrastructure and education, positioning Iran as a key economy in the region.

In Australia, Iranians celebrated what they viewed as a liberation of their fellow citizens and a thwarting of Iran’s potential nuclear ambitions.

Even in places like Oslo, Norway, Iranian exiles expressed admiration toward President Trump for dismantling what they described as the Islamic terrorist regime, taking to the streets to show their support.
