Iran’s so-called “supreme leader” has called for direct attacks on Israel in retaliation for the killing of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in an Israeli airstrike in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Wednesday.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has ordered Iran to launch direct attacks on Israel in retaliation for the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, according to three Iranian officials briefed on the order.
Khamenei issued the order at an emergency meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council on Wednesday morning, shortly after Tehran announced Haniyeh’s killing, according to three Iranian officials, including two from Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, who asked not to be named as they were not authorized to speak publicly.
Israel has yet to directly claim responsibility for the airstrikes.
Iran’s April attack on Israel involved firing around 300 shells, nearly all of which were intercepted by the air defenses of Israel and its regional allies.
Many countries have urged their citizens to leave Lebanon, and some U.S. airlines have canceled flights to Israel in anticipation of a possible war between Israel and the Iranian terrorist group Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Israel killed a Hezbollah deputy commander in an airstrike in Beirut on Tuesday.
