Irish Firefighter Sentenced for Rape in Boston

A firefighter from Ireland, Terrence Crosbie, has been sentenced to a prison term of up to nine years for raping a woman during his visit to Boston for the St. Patrick’s Day parade last year. This sentencing took place on Thursday, despite receiving letters of support from his family, including his wife and children.

The 39-year-old was convicted for a troubling 15-minute attack that occurred on March 15, 2024, at the Omni Parker House hotel, which is known for its luxury. During the proceedings, he pleaded with the judge for the chance to return to his family in Ireland.

Judge Joshua Wall described the incident, which unfolded while the victim was sound asleep in a locked hotel room, as an “unusual act of sexual violence,” resulting in a prison sentence of seven to nine years.

His legal team had presented an 80-page document of support, highlighting sentiments from his wife and a joint letter from his daughters, who are aged 15 and 8. They referred to Crosbie as a hero and the most caring father they could ask for, expressing a desire for the judge to consider sending him home.

However, the specific contents of his wife’s letter remain unclear.

Crosbie’s attorney, Daniel Riley, had requested a lighter sentence, suggesting three to five years based on Crosbie’s previously clean record. He acknowledged the seriousness of the conviction, emphasizing its lasting impact on the victim.

The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, shared her emotional turmoil during the sentencing. She expressed how the attack has disrupted her life and shattered her self-confidence.

The assault is reported to have taken place after the victim shared a hotel room with a friend of Crosbie’s. Following a consensual encounter with another firefighter, she passed out on a bed. She then woke to find Crosbie in her room, climbing onto her bed and assaulting her.

She stated, “My rapist has never apologized or shown any remorse for what he did. It’s frightening to think that someone could commit such an act and feel no need to offer an apology.” Crosbie, on his part, has denied the allegations and maintains his innocence, insisting he never touched the woman.
