The Islanders have nine games remaining before the Four Nations suspension, but if you're Lou Lamoriello, you've got to like what you're watching.
The Islanders enter Friday's home game against the Flyers with a four-point deficit, but have won five of their past seven games. At least on the surface, it doesn't seem like it's just a product of luck. They have put together a flawless effort, only once in 2025 have they allowed an opponent more than 30 shots, and since the return of Matt Barzal and Bo Horvat, the top six has finally regained its energy. There is. Importantly, both special teams look competent for the first time in a while.
If you want to make the argument that the Islanders should stay the course, and no one will be surprised to learn that Lamoriello agrees with such an argument, the team is making a case for it right now on the ice. It's progressing.
But here's the problem. The Islanders are now two points further out of the playoffs than they were on Jan. 4, before winning the first of three straight games that started this turnaround.
