As leader of the worldwide Catholic Church, Pope Francis is tasked with guiding the Church, spreading Christianity, and acting as a vessel between believers and God.
In the digital age, that means meeting the herd where they are and spending time on social media. Throughout his papacy, Pope Francis has consistently spread his message to his parishioners through social media sites such as X.
But some of his recent messages have left NFL fans and parishioners a little confused.
For example, on November 1, Pope Francis sent this message about the saints and how they are “poor, meek, merciful, hungry and thirsty for justice and seeking peace.” It included the hashtag for the word saint.

November 5th Pope Francis sends new message about saintsagain using hashtags. Again, the result was the addition of irises.
Thursday morning, the same thing happened again. Pope Francis has sent a message calling on all parishioners to become saints with joyful hearts. Once again the hashtag was used and once again fleur de lis was used appeared:
Thursday, the Saints replied:
Perhaps there's a deeper message here, beyond Pope Francis accidentally falling for a hashtag while trying to spread the good word. Maybe he's a big Saints fan?
Both in the gospel and in the field.
