Is that Nicole? Body Cam Reveals Democratic State Senator During Theft

Bodycam Footage Shows Arrest of Minnesota Senator Nicole Mitchell

Bodycam footage that was released on Tuesday reveals Minnesota Senator Nicole Mitchell standing outside her stepmother’s house at 4:45 a.m., dressed in all black and with her hands raised. This incident occurred when the Detroit Lakes police took Mitchell into custody in April 2024, following a 911 call made by her stepmother, Carol Mitchell, reporting a break-in.

During the second day of the trial, prosecutors played the bodycam video, showing officers confronting Mitchell in the dimly lit living room. The footage also shows Carol in a robe, asking the officers, “Is that Nicole?” In response, Mitchell explained, “You wouldn’t talk to me anymore, so I was just trying to get some of my dad’s.”

Mitchell faces charges of first-degree robbery and possession of burglary tools, as she allegedly attempted to break into her stepmother’s home. Prosecutors are pushing for a conviction.

Despite these charges, Mitchell has denied any criminal intent, stating she only entered the house to retrieve her late father’s ashes and personal items. Her lawyer contended that her actions were driven by concern for Carol’s well-being rather than any intent to steal.

According to reports, Carol expressed fear of her stepdaughter and mentioned that she had already sent some of her father’s ashes to her. However, Mitchell’s attorneys argue that Carol’s statements have not been entirely truthful. Becker County prosecutor Brian McDonald stated that a judge had seen a flashlight covered with socks during the proceedings.

In January, Republican state senator attempted to expel Mitchell from the Chamber of Commerce amid delays in her trial. He argued that lawmakers should not wait for the outcome of a criminal trial before taking action. “We should not conspire to delay justice for victims of crime by allowing Senator Mitchell to use his membership in this agency to protect himself from criminal consequences,” he stated.

As of now, Mitchell’s Senate office has not provided any comment on the situation.
