Conspiracy Theories Arise Over NASA Mars Photos

A growing distrust in NASA and some rarely shared images from Mars are stirring up strange conspiracy theories online. One UFO enthusiast claims to have found hidden truths in older photos snapped by NASA’s Curiosity rover, simply by using his own eyes.

Curiosity has been roaming Mars for nearly 14 years now, and there’s an extensive collection of around 775,000 images available. One particular image from February 2022 caught attention after being shared by UFO researcher Scott C. Waring, along with a report from a UK site.

Waring suggested that the four-year-old photo displayed unexploded ordnance on Mars, which he argued was evidence of an ancient war that obliterated most Martian life. “This is undeniable evidence,” he proclaimed, asserting that it was situated just a few meters from the rover.

This assertion partially came from an earlier photographic release, which NASA indicated was aimed at studying unspecified rock formations. Although the agency hasn’t exactly contradicted Waring, they’ve described the object he highlights as just a rock formation.

Cave Dwellers, Perhaps?

In another analysis of Mars images, taken in May 2022, Waring speculated about carved rocks being “entrances made by intelligent beings” seeking cover from harsh conditions. He claimed humanity had similar architecture long ago, potentially hinting at an ancient connection.

Nasa, on the other hand, has characterized the formations as natural fractures, noting one specific opening measured about 12 inches high and 16 inches wide, likening it to a small dog door. “This kind of fracture is usually found on both Earth and Mars,” the agency stated.

Recently, NASA has proposed various theories involving water and potential signs of life on Mars. Notably, they reported that formations resembling spiderwebs indicate ancient groundwater possibly flowed onto Earth later than previously believed, raising questions about the survival of microbes on Mars.

NASA’s Ashwin Vasavada remarked that newly identified molecules could mean that Mars may have once been capable of supporting life in its distant past.
