AUSTIN, Texas — A Look at the 2025 F1 Rookie Class
The 2025 F1 Rookie class made quite the entrance, featuring young talents like Kimi Antonelli, who took over the seat previously held by Lewis Hamilton, and Oliver Bearman, joining the new Haas lineup. As the season progresses, it seems that these rookies are living up to expectations.
One standout, in particular, is Isaac Hajar.
This season, Hajjar has amassed 39 points and currently ranks ninth in the Drivers’ Championship. He celebrated his debut podium finish at the recent Dutch Grand Prix. Ahead of the upcoming American Grand Prix, we caught up with the Visa Cash App Racing Bulls’ rookie driver to discuss his experiences this season and beyond.
Isaac Hajar’s Performance in 2025
Our chat kicked off with Hajar reflecting on his season and that first podium. Like all drivers on the grid, he has that competitive edge. While many would feel pleased with his successes so far, F1 drivers tend to hold themselves to a higher standard.
“I think it’s been good enough,” Hajjar shared when asked about his season. “The ups and downs have been intense.” He acknowledged that, being a rookie, it’s natural to make mistakes and learn from them. “You’ll try some things that work and some that don’t. It’s definitely going to be a rollercoaster.”
When I inquired about his feelings crossing the finish line for his first F1 podium at Zandvoort, he quickly emphasized that family was at the forefront of his thoughts.
“It was definitely a lot of emotions,” he said. “I just thought about my parents. This is a family project, after all.” Hajar’s first instinct after achieving this milestone was that family connection.
He confessed he wished that final lap wouldn’t end—wanting to cherish the moment a bit longer. “I just wanted to enjoy this moment for as long as possible. I didn’t want it to be over,” he added, still reminiscing about that great moment.
I then asked him about his strengths on the track.
Hajar pointed to his head, both literally and metaphorically. “It may not seem like it, but you really do use your head when you drive,” he explained, noting that he prides himself on being a clean racer.
Every rookie faces their own learning curve during their first season, and some moments can be pivotal. For Hajar, it was his misstep during the formation lap at the Australian Grand Prix that set the tone. He was already back in the paddock when the race began.
Yet by mid-season, he started feeling more like a seasoned driver. “I wouldn’t say there was just one race, but I definitely felt a shift around the middle of the season. I’d go to the track, maybe not even know the layout, and find myself competitive right away,” he shared. “It’s like I was on top of it.”
Shifting gears, we talked about the collaboration between VCARB and ExxonMobil, their official fuels and lubricants partner. With the United States Grand Prix approaching, there’s usually a lot of partnership activity leading up to it, including a special livery for the race.
“ExxonMobil is a team partner for VCARB, helping us keep the wheels turning. This is their home race—our home race—and it’s going to be a fantastic weekend,” Hajjar expressed.
ExxonMobil has planned various activities for fans in Austin during the Grand Prix. One highlight includes a merchandise truck where fans can grab team gear, free hats, Lego sets, and even a chance to win free fuel for a year.
On the topic of social media, I asked Hajar about his experience with it as part of the team. VCARB has a significant presence online, posting content featuring him and teammate Liam Lawson.
“No,” he laughed when I asked if he enjoyed the social media work. “I’ve heard I look like I’m having fun doing that.”
“I’m a racing driver at heart. As a kid, I always dreamed of being behind the wheel.” He later conceded that creating videos turned out to be “a lot of fun,” hinting he might even pursue acting after his racing career.
“Honestly, it’s kind of enjoyable, especially outdoors,” he added with a grin. “Even if I have to play a character, I guess I could pull it off.”
Looking Ahead to the USGP and the F1 Season
As our conversation wrapped up, I wanted to know what Hajar expected from the upcoming American Grand Prix and the rest of the season. He mentioned his excitement for another sprint weekend, a format he truly enjoys.
“It’s a chance to earn more points, which is always great,” he said with enthusiasm. “I’m aiming to reach SQ3 and gather points during both attempts in Q3.”
Looking further ahead, Hajar noted that above all, he wants to enjoy the experience. “I’ve done well so far, and now I want to test myself and gain more experience.”
That journey continues tomorrow right here in Austin.
