ISIS leaders killed in Western Iraq raid paired with Iraqi Security Forces: CENTCOM

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Friday that it had carried out a raid in western Iraq that killed 14 ISIS terrorist activists.

Of the 14 operatives, four were ISIS leaders: Ahmad Hamid Hussain Abd al-Jalil al-Issawi, Abu Hamam, Abu Ali al-Tunisi, and Shakir Abd Ahmad al-Issawi.

The raid took place on August 29 in cooperation with Iraqi security forces.

According to CENTCOM, the responsibility of the four slain ISIS leaders was related to military and technical operations in Iraq.

“This operation targeted ISIS leadership and helped disrupt and degrade ISIS's ability to plan, organize, and carry out attacks against Iraqi civilians, U.S. citizens, allies, and partners in the region and beyond,” the CENTCOM statement said.

According to the Ministry of National Intelligence, ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) is a “Salafist jihadist group that has carried out and instigated terrorist attacks around the world, resulting in thousands of deaths and injuries.”

The current leader of ISIS is Abu al-Hassan al-Hashimi al-Quraishi, who assumed the position in February 2022.

“U.S. Central Command remains committed to the enduring defeat of ISIS, which continues to threaten the United States, our allies and partners, and regional stability,” said Gen. Michael Eric Kurilla, commander of U.S. Central Command.
