The Islanders will be without Maxim Tsyplakov for the next three games, with the left wing serving a three-game suspension for a hit on the Flyers' Ryan Poehling (an illegal check to the head) during Thursday's game. This was announced by the NHL Players Bureau. Safety was announced on Friday.
Just over nine minutes into Thursday's first period, Tsyplakov slid toward Pauling, cut toward the net and took a tight-angled shot that lowered his left shoulder.
Pohling left the game with an injury and did not return, but Tsyplakov was not called for a penalty on this play.
However, a hearing was held on Friday, and the suspension, which will keep him out of the lineup for the Islanders' upcoming games against the Sharks, Blue Jackets and Flyers, was scheduled to be announced after that.
Tsyplakov, a 26-year-old rookie from Russia, bounced around various positions in head coach Patrick Roy's lineup, collecting seven goals and 19 points in the first 44 games of his NHL career.
He hasn't scored a point since Dec. 21.
And with the Islanders heading into Friday's game eight points out of the playoff spot, and with their season already in jeopardy due to a combination of injuries and instability, Tsyplakov has until January 25th against the Islanders. Since he is not eligible to return, he will need to readjust. Hurricane.
