Israel Marks the Third Anniversary of the October 7 Attacks
As three years pass since the tragic events of October 7, 2023, Israelis gather to pay tribute to those who lost their lives and to acknowledge the profound impact on countless others.
On that fateful day, approximately 1,200 individuals were killed and 251 were taken captive to Gaza by Hamas militants, a horrific incident that is considered the most devastating attack against the Jewish community since the Holocaust.
At the memorial site for the Nova Festival, where many festival-goers and security personnel lost their lives and others were kidnapped, people came together for a national ceremony dedicated to the victims. This gathering was orchestrated by families and survivors, as reported.
“We are here to tell their story and say to the world we shall dance again,” stated President Isaac Herzog during the ceremony.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also made a statement to honor the anniversary.
“Today, I lit a memorial candle at the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem, commemorating every victim murdered on the 7th of October by the monsters of Hamas,” he declared.
Additionally, the Israel Defense Forces shared a video on social media showcasing footage from that tragic day, portraying the chaos as festival-goers reacted to the incoming attack of thousands of rockets by Hamas.
This video depicted the acts of terror committed by the militants and the aftermath of the violence.
Former President Donald Trump remarked that he had communicated with Netanyahu, expressing his well-wishes for both him and the Israeli public.
“That was a horrible day, a horrible tragedy – and the other side is paying a very big price for what they did on October 7th, believe me,” Trump told reporters on Wednesday.
Furthermore, Trump shared a message through his social media platform.
According to the American Jewish Committee, the last of the Israeli hostages were released through a U.S.-brokered arrangement between Israel and Hamas, with the final body returned in January of this year.
