The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Thursday released videos and photos of an underground weapons manufacturing facility built by Hamas beneath a major humanitarian corridor in the Gaza Strip.
As Breitbart News reported, earlier this month the Israeli Defense Forces discovered a rocket manufacturing factory underground on Salah al-Din Street in central Gaza. The IDF further investigated the complex and discovered a vast maze of tunnels, workshops, and shafts lined with humanitarian infrastructure in the area.
The IDF said in a statement:
The 36th Division worked with soldiers from Yahalom and Shardag forces to expose and destroy the heart of Hamas' arms manufacturing industry near Salah al-Din Street in the Gaza Strip. The area had above-ground and underground weapons factories and lathes used to manufacture ammunition and weapons for Hamas operatives.
Soldiers discovered dozens of tunnel shafts connected to tunnel routes hundreds of kilometers long, including one in the residence of a senior official of Hamas's weapons production unit. The tunnel was divided into areas used for rocket and weapon manufacturing. Weapons were transported throughout the Gaza Strip using a network of tunnels.
In Magaji, near and inside civilian buildings, soldiers of the Golani Brigade exposed dozens of workshops for producing weapons and tunnel shafts, including large quantities of weapons and equipment. Between Nuseyrat and Breiji, soldiers from the 188th Brigade discovered machinery and containers for chemical production, along with hundreds of long-range rockets. In addition, the Ifta brigade combat team carried out operations against the terrorist infrastructure of Hamas's Blij Battalion. Hamas terrorists embedded this infrastructure in and near civilian buildings and government offices, further demonstrating Hamas' cynical use of civilians. Soldiers found terrorist funds in safes, propaganda materials, maps and weapons in the area.
The IDF mainly destroyed Hamas infrastructure in the northern and central regions of the Gaza Strip. Heavy fighting remains in southern Gaza, and Hamas leaders have retreated into underground tunnels with Israeli hostages, hoping that international pressure will stop Israeli attacks – or at least stop them. would last long enough for the people to escape through the tunnels to Egypt and beyond.
