Israel Targets Hezbollah HQ in Massive Strike; Nasrallah Fate Unknown

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Friday that it had targeted Hezbollah's underground headquarters in Beirut.

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah may also be among the dead. His fate has not yet been confirmed.

Shortly after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu finished speaking at the United Nations, a massive explosion was seen and heard in the Dahieh district.

Prime Minister Netanyahu reportedly spoke to reporters until a military aide whispered in his ear, then abruptly left the press conference without explanation.

IDF spokesman Maj. Gen. Daniel Hagari delivered the following message in English:

Recently, the Israel Defense Forces conducted a precision attack on the central headquarters of the terrorist organization Hezbollah, which has become the center of Hezbollah's terrorism.

Hezbollah's central headquarters was purposefully constructed beneath a residential building in the center of Dahiyeh, Beirut, as part of Hezbollah's strategy to use Lebanese as human shields.

On October 8, Hezbollah launched an attack on Israel.

Nearly a year has passed since Hezbollah fired rockets, missiles and suicide drones at Israeli civilians, and a year has passed since Israel warned the world that Hezbollah must be stopped. After that, Israel is doing what every sovereign nation in the world would do if it were Israel. There were terrorist organizations trying to destroy them on the border, and we took the necessary actions to protect our people so that Israeli families could live safely and securely in their homes.

Prime Minister Netanyahu had just warned Iran, Hezbollah's backer, at the United Nations General Assembly: There is no place in Iran beyond the reach of Israel's long arm. And that applies to the entire Middle East. ”
