Israel Strikes Houthi Targets in Yemen
On Thursday, Israel confirmed it had executed another strike against Houthi positions in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa. This marked the second such operation in just over a week.
The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) accused the Houthis of operating under Iranian influence, which they claim threatens Israel and its allies. They criticized the group for undermining regional stability and jeopardizing global maritime navigation.
In a turn of events, former President Trump has called on terrorist organizations to bolster support for Yemen’s anti-Houthi forces, potentially escalating attacks on shipping routes. He warned the Houthis, stating, “After the plague of darkness, the plague of death comes.” He added that Israel would respond decisively to any aggression.
The latest strike was triggered by Israel intercepting two drones launched from Yemen. Notably, this attack coincided with a speech by Houthi leader Abdul-Malik Badreddin Al-Houthi, which reportedly went on without interruption.
Earlier in the week, Israel conducted an airstrike in response to a missile fired by the Houthis, resulting in the deaths of six individuals and injuring 86 others, as reported by a Houthi Health Ministry spokesman.
This ongoing conflict between Israel and the Houthis has persisted for nearly two years. Following the Hamas attack on October 7, Iranian-backed entities, including the Houthis, threatened retribution against Israel, leading to missile and drone attacks that were intercepted by U.S. forces.
In retaliation, Israel has targeted areas under Houthi control, such as the Port of Hodeida, responding to continuous missile threats launched at them. Recently, the Houthis indicated they would continue their attacks on Israel, claiming they fired a ballistic missile in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.
