Gustavo Petro, a former member of the Marxist terrorist guerilla group M19 and Colombia’s first leftist president, has been spearheading an international campaign against Israel that began shortly after the jihadist terrorist organization Hamas carried out an unprecedented terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, leaving more than 1,200 people dead and hundreds taken hostage.

Israel’s self-defense operation against Hamas has been met with a series of anti-Semitic comments made by Petro both at official events and on social media since the operation began.
Shortly after the start of the self-defense operation against Hamas, Peter Accused He accused Israel of turning Gaza into a concentration camp comparable to Auschwitz and compared the Israeli government’s actions to those of Nazi Germany and Adolf Hitler during World War II.
“If I had lived in Germany in 1933, I would have fought on the side of the Jews, and if I had lived in Palestine in 1948, I would have fought on the side of the Palestinians,” Petro said at the time. “Now, neo-Nazis want the destruction of the Palestinian people, freedom and culture. Now, democrats and progressives want peace and freedom for Israelis and Palestinians.”
In his most recent and most insane statement, released in early June, Petro said: Accused The US government, led by President Joe Biden, has accused Gaza of being run by “Nazis” who are allegedly conducting “experiments” comparable to the Holocaust, and has again compared Israel’s actions to those of Nazi Germany.
Petro offered no evidence to back up his “Nazi” claims and made the accusation in a speech at an official event where he was praised by Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki for his support for the “Palestinian cause.”
“What Hitler proposed is being carried out in Gaza, but as an experiment on the world. This is how they want to rule us, how power can end life in a planned, generalized and large-scale way,” Petro said at the event. “That’s what we see today, exactly as Hitler proposed it. They are experimenting in Gaza.”
Petro’s anti-Semitic remarks and anti-Israel actions he has been committing since October 2023 are almost 60 years Colombia and Israel have a historically friendly relationship.
The Colombian president has repeatedly used Threatened Colombia has warned that it will sever all ties with Israel if Israel does not halt its self-defense operations against Hamas. Petro made the official threat in May, Announced In a speech during the Colombian government’s celebrations of the communist holiday May Day, the president announced Colombia’s decision to sever diplomatic ties with Israel.
President Petro’s decision to sever nearly 60 years of ties between Colombia and Israel Reportedly Hamas celebrated the move. A few weeks after the announcement, the Colombian government Announced Plans to open a new embassy in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
Colombian Foreign Minister Luis Murillo told reporters that opening an embassy in Ramallah was to make it easier to recognise “Palestine” as a state and was “not against Israel, the Israeli people or the Jewish people.”
