Israeli Prime Minister Discusses Gaza Operation

Jerusalem Updates from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

During a press conference on Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed ongoing issues related to the Gaza War and rising tensions with Iran.

Gaza Hostages

Netanyahu reported that there are at least 20 hostages alive, with a possible total of 38 fatalities. “We’ll get them all back,” he assured. He mentioned that if a temporary ceasefire could help retrieve more hostages, they would be open to that option, stressing that it needs to be a temporary measure.

Iran

He expressed hope for a deal with the United States to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, specifically by restricting its uranium enrichment capabilities. “If such an agreement is reached, we would welcome it. However, it’s important to state that Israel will always reserve the right to defend itself against any regime that poses a threat to our existence,” he added.

Gaza Attack

Netanyahu noted that Israeli forces are gradually taking control of more land in Gaza to dismantle terrorist infrastructure. “By the end of this operation, all of Gaza should be under Israeli security oversight, and we aim to defeat Hamas entirely,” he stated.

Gaza Humanitarian Crisis

He emphasized the necessity to avoid a humanitarian crisis, highlighting that this would help maintain operational flexibility and support from key allies.

Ending the War

Netanyahu said he is prepared to conclude the military conflict if specific conditions for Israel’s security are met. He cautioned that anyone advocating for an end to hostilities before accomplishing these goals is essentially supporting Hamas remaining in power. “We have three objectives in Gaza: eliminate Hamas, secure the release of hostages, and reset Gaza’s trajectory. While we are making solid progress, we will do so with care to minimize IDF casualties,” he concluded.
