Israeli troops return to Gaza City, impose blocade

Israeli forces again imposed a blockade of Gaza's northern capital on Thursday.

Israel also continued to fire Gaza, killing 85 Palestinians from Wednesday to Thursday, according to the Gaza Health Ministry in Hamaslan. Israel maintained its lockdown in Gaza city for much of the war before the January ceasefire that collapsed earlier this week.

The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) warned residents not to use main roads to move north to Gaza city.

The IDF is carrying out further ground operations in the northern town of Beitrahiya. Most of the Palestinian deaths in the past 24 hours have been centered around town.

Hamas launched a handful of rockets in Israel on Thursday, with no casualties.

The death toll in Gaza has risen to 592 since Tuesday, according to the Ministry of Health. The number of deaths has not been independently verified.

In addition to the Gaza city lockdown, IDF Team It will also be deployed in the Netzarim Corridor, an important section of Gaza, essentially cutting the strip in half. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has argued that Israel will continue its military operations until all hostages are returned from Hamas' custody.

“Hamas has rejected an offer to release our hostages. For the past two weeks, Israel has not launched military action in the hopes of Hamas changing its course. Well, that didn't happen. “This is why we approved an update of military action against Hamas yesterday.”
