Issa criticizes Democrats for their reaction to the anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles

GOP Representative Darrell Issa Critiques Democrats Over LA Riots

Representative Darrell Issa, a Republican from California, is criticizing elected Democratic leaders in her hometown regarding their reactions to recent anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles. This comes after she called for a Congressional investigation into the response times of local law enforcement.

“These are the same folks claiming Biden is doing a great job,” Issa remarked, referring to the Democratic portrayal of the riots that have unfolded since Friday. “Their credibility diminishes when you see the reality of what’s happening, unless they truly intend to lie about it.”

She suggested that the Democratic leadership is downplaying the severity of the riots, emphasizing that many anti-ICE protests were, according to them, peaceful.

Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, both Democrats, have accused former President Trump of escalating the situation by mobilizing the National Guard.

Issa, who represents California’s 48th Congressional District, pointed out issues with the narrative. “There was significant damage before Trump got involved, which is why he had to take action. However, many are missing another angle,” Issa told Fox News Digital. She highlighted a particular incident where ICE agents waited two hours for police assistance while being attacked, attributing the delay to the police lacking the authority to respond.

Issa’s call for an investigation followed claims from the Department of Homeland Security that LAPD took too long to assist ICE agents on Friday night. The LAPD refuted this, stating they would respond in about 40 minutes due to traffic conditions.

Issa Raises Concerns Over Safety of ICE Agents

Issa expressed her concerns about public safety concerning immigration enforcement. “With over 10 million immigrants, some of whom have serious criminal histories, we need to prioritize the safety of ICE agents. If local leaders don’t support them, then federal action becomes necessary,” she said.

She praised Trump’s handling of the unrest, believing it helps prevent similar issues from arising in other cities. “By taking decisive action, he’s sending a message that we don’t want violence spreading beyond these borders,” she stated.

Issa also noted the contrasting terminology used by Democrats. “They call the January 6 events a rebellion, yet when violence occurs clearly against property and law enforcement, it’s still dismissed,” she commented, indicating a perceived double standard.

She further criticized Newsom for defending the actions of those engaged in the protests, suggesting that video evidence contradicts any softening of the situation advocated by officials.

Fox News Digital reached out to officials for comments, but responses from Newsom and Bass were not mentioned.

Newsom described Trump’s militarized response as excessive, saying it does not protect communities but rather harms them. “Trump’s actions apply to every state, affecting us all,” he added.
