During an episode of HBO’s “Real Time” airing on Friday, host Bill Maher expressed displeasure with former President Donald Trump, a 2024 Republican presidential candidate, for claiming that the 20% inflation rate since Biden took office is the worst on record, and for Trump saying he had blood on his hands after being shot when in fact there was no blood on them.
Maher said he was bothered by Trump not conceding the election results and “just lying,” adding, “He doesn’t care that he’s lying, he doesn’t know what he’s lying about. I have a list from last night, the election was stolen, it wasn’t. Crime is up, crime is down. Worst inflation in history, 23 years.”[%]It’s 3[%]People are coming. Illegal immigration has killed hundreds of thousands of Americans and 107% of new jobs have gone to illegal immigrants.”
Rep. Byron Donald (R-Fla.) responded:[T]he [overarching] “Inflation has risen substantially since Joe Biden took office, over 20% to date. These prices aren’t going away, Bill.”
“Then say so. Don’t say it’s the worst ever. That’s a lie,” Maher replied.
Donald countered that for people under 45, this is the worst inflation ever.
Maher later said he didn’t think Trump knew he was lying. “It’s just how he feels. He said that when he was talking about getting shot he looked down and his hands were covered in blood, there was blood everywhere, but then he was shown a picture of his hand without any blood. I’m not minimizing what happened, I’m just saying that says a lot about his character. To him it was just bad blood, but just a little bit of blood.”
Donald responded that people’s memories can sometimes be more dramatic than the actual events, which can happen when they’re dealing with stressful situations.
