Harbaugh Responds to Questions About Meeting Trump
Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh had a strong reaction to a reporter’s questioning about his recent visit to the White House with President Donald Trump. This visit included several families, himself and his brother Jim, who is the head coach for the Los Angeles Chargers, and occurred back in early July.
During a press conference at Ravens Training Camp, reporters probed into why Harbaugh would choose to visit the president in 2019, especially after Trump had made comments about Baltimore being “disgusting” and infested with rodents. Harbaugh’s response was pointed: he suggested that the question could have been framed differently. “You could’ve asked how that experience was,” he suggested, implying there was value in the meeting.
In a light-hearted moment captured during the press conference, he also reflected on his previous visits with former presidents. He mentioned having met Barack Obama in 2013 when the Ravens celebrated winning the Super Bowl, and recollected his interactions with Joe Biden back when Biden was vice president.
Interestingly, Jim told reporters about his own experiences, revealing that he had met seven presidents, whereas John had met four. Harbaugh recounted fond memories, including a time when he met Ronald Reagan during a family trip related to the Heisman Trophy candidacy.
He emphasized the importance of such invitations, particularly for his family. “I think being invited to the White House with, you know, eight other families is a big deal,” he remarked, pointing out how significant these experiences are for family connections.
