Khalif will advance to the next round in the women’s 66kg category, but the win comes amid a controversial week whose developments will be closely followed.

The IOC has cleared Kherif to compete and the Algerian Olympic Committee (COA) responded to the criticism ahead of Thursday’s games.
“COA strongly condemns the unethical attacks and slander against our esteemed athletes. […] “Due to unfounded propaganda by some foreign media,” the group said, via Reuters.
“Such attacks on her character and dignity are extremely unjustified, especially as she prepares to reach the pinnacle of her career at the Olympic Games. The COA has taken all necessary steps to protect our champion.”
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who visited the Italian athletes at the Olympic Village on Thursday, expressed criticism That Carini had to box Khalif.
“We have to be conscious that while we try not to discriminate, we are in fact discriminating against women’s rights,” Meloni said.
She added: “It is bizarre that the Olympic Games, a symbol of fairness in sport, should give rise to allegations, and more than allegations, that one of its competitors played an unfair and potentially dangerous game.”
