Chicago Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) President John Catanzara on Wednesday slammed “record” crime in Chicago after a mother lost her unborn baby in a brutal attack by a group of teenagers.
Catanzara appeared on “The Ingraham Angle” to discuss rising crime rates in Democratic cities following the attack on a Chicago couple last week. Fox host Laura Ingraham asked Catanzara what the “purpose” of the attack was after the couple said the teens hadn’t robbed them. “Well, there’s the thrill,” Catanzara said. “First of all, good evening, Laura. Thanks for having me. This is ridiculous. They keep saying this city is safer. Nobody feels safer. Traditionally safe places and areas of this city are experiencing record rates of crime. This is simply a fact. No matter how much you say murders are going down, you can’t get away from these numbers.”
According to the data, Illinois Policy Institute Since March, the city’s violent crime arrest rate has fallen 43% over the past decade, but violent crime has increased 11.5% in 2023. Ingram asked Catanzara what has changed in America when it comes to crime, and whether the 2020 riots were a “tipping point” for young people.
“It was, but I think the younger generation is so obsessed with their phones that they don’t relate to it on a personal level as they grow up, whether it’s toddlers, teens or even young adults, and that’s what leads to all this trouble as well,” Catanzara responded. “It’s all almost like a fantasy world, with no consequences, no real death, but, you know, the reality is totally different.”
Last Friday, a Chicago couple was walking in the city’s Streeterville neighborhood when they were attacked by a group of teenagers, who repeatedly kicked the woman in the stomach, punched her, and sprayed her with pepper spray. according to According to the New York Post, photos were circulated showing the woman with strands of her hair ripped out and her husband with scars on his head, and the woman later revealed that she had lost her unborn baby two weeks into her pregnancy.
Authorities have arrested two suspects, a 14-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl, who are reportedly facing misdemeanor assault charges.
