The Spiritual Nature of Politics

There’s a growing sense that politics isn’t just about policies; it’s deeply spiritual. The ongoing partisan strife isn’t merely about governance but reflects a cosmic battle between good and evil that many seem to overlook.

While Christ has already secured significant victories, the struggles we face on earth often stem from Christians not rallying to engage. It’s surprising, really, how passionate and dedicated many progressive voices are compared to Christians today.

There’s a notion that we’re confronted with a “religious enemy.” In this context, Steve Deace, host of “The Steve Deace Show,” emphasizes that “You can’t win unless you’re convicted of your crime.” He suggests that relentless opposition comes from those who strongly believe in their cause.

So, how do we change the narrative?

To delve deeper into this topic, Deace had a discussion with Jim DeMint, a former U.S. senator and committed Christian.

“The primary divide in Washington, and across the nation, revolves around the truth of the Bible,” says DeMint. He argues that our culture and Western civilization are fundamentally based on Judeo-Christian principles rooted in biblical teachings. From family structures to moral values, it all traces back to the Bible.

Twenty-five years ago, there was mutual acknowledgment of this truth. Today? Not so much. One political party has lost its moral compass, blurring lines by equating barbaric practices with essential healthcare, including advocating for late-term abortions.

If such progressive policies prevail, DeMint warns, it represents a win for dark forces. Yet, many Christians seem to adopt a passive stance, merely hoping for change.

Christians are called to action. “Pastors and Christian leaders must step into the light, becoming active participants in how we are governed,” DeMint asserts.

DeMint has also authored a book titled “What the Bible Really Says: Creation, End Times, Politics, and You”. In it, he discusses how long-standing misconceptions and traditions within the church have diluted the Bible’s significant political impact, leaving Christians vulnerable in spiritual battles. He advocates for a return to straightforward scripture to empower believers in confronting issues of authority, family, and justice.

Today’s churches often feel “thin,” “tepid,” and overly focused on themselves rather than the political challenges at hand, he notes.

DeMint believes a serious reflection on the Bible can reveal that the conflicts in Washington are, in essence, essentially God’s battles.

“Yes, Republicans have their shortcomings, and there were many times I criticized them during my time in office. But their platform is rooted in Judeo-Christian values; that’s not the case with Democrats,” he remarks.

While Christians should value political achievements, DeMint stresses that these victories aren’t the ultimate goal. “Winning this battle isn’t straightforward,” he cautions.

Ultimately, the real struggle lies within each individual’s beliefs. The pressing question he continues to pose is, “Is the Bible true or not?” Until individuals truly embrace every word as divinely inspired, the cultural tide will likely continue to favor opposing views that are confident in their falsehoods.
