At just 16 years old, the youngest player in this year's tournament, American teenager Iva Jovic finished her US Open career with a performance that showed maturity and intensity beyond her years.
Ekaterina Alexandrova, ranked 29th in the world, advanced with a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 win over Jovic in the second round, but it was more of a runaway win than a victory.
Jovic was the more clinical of the two, surviving six match points before finally succumbing on his seventh.
Although she still plays doubles, junior singles and junior doubles, her performances in singles were impressive.
The young American wildcard grew up playing tennis on the roof of their California apartment building with her sister Mia.
Jovic, ranked 389th in the world, was playing in a tour-level main draw for the first time and facing a top-50 player for the first time.
She was undeterred by the pressure or the 93 degree heat.
Jovic simply missed a shot or two.

Down 5-4 and facing triple match points, she fought back at deuce.
A double fault from Alexandrova kept her in the match, but a forehand winner down the line gave Jovic a break point, which the Court 12 crowd responded to with roars of “Iva! Iva! Iva!”
Jovic survived several break points as Alexandrova hit long shots and began slamming her racket on the court.
However, the latter recovered and eventually won the match.
