Ivey on whether Schumer should step down: 'We'll see'

Rep. Glenn Evie (D-MD.) commented further on Wednesday on the leadership of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (DN.Y.).

“So yes or no, you want him – do you want him to resign?” asked Blake Burman of NewsNation on “The Hill.”

“I mean, we'll see. I want to hear what he's saying about what he's planning on coming up…but Friday was a disaster,” Ivey replies, apparently referring to Schumer voted to move forward with the fundraising bill that Republicans have been created.

On Tuesday, Ivy said he had “respect” for Schumer, adding that “he's a great, long-standing career.”

“But I'm worried that there will be a time when Senate Democrats will choose a new leader,” he added at City Hall.

Many Democrats have expressed disappointment that Schumer will vote to advance the funding bill, and some of his Senate colleagues have recently questioned his decisions since the start of his leadership.

“We need to go to the same page, and we need to have a strategy in the House and Senate. It's coordinated and effective, and we didn't have that last week,” Ivy said of his party on Wednesday.

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) told NBC's Kristen Welker last weekend that he “still” and “as leader as Senator Schumer.” But he also said he believes, “The only way we can be effective as a caucus is if we change our tactics.”

“And we need to have a conversation like we do that within the caucus,” Murphy added.

Hill reached into Schumer's office for comment.
