JJ Watt and Kealia Ohai Watt at MLS Match
In a recent social media update, former professional soccer player Kealia Ohai Watt seemed to overshadow her well-known husband, JJ Watt. The future Pro Football Hall of Famer is married to Kealia, who was once part of the U.S. Women’s National Team and played in the National Women’s Soccer League.
The couple attended an MLS match on Wednesday night, where they watched Real Salt Lake face off against Burnley FC, a team they partly own. The team made a welcoming post for the Watts.
“@JJWatt and family, welcome to Riot,” the team shared.
However, JJ didn’t seem thrilled about how Kealia’s accomplishments were presented. She’s quite the local soccer figure, having grown up in Sandy where her youth team secured four state titles. Watt pointed out her significant achievements, noting that she had been named Gatorade Player of the Year twice and had also scored the fastest first goal in USWNT history. “Perhaps worth mentioning, I think,” he remarked in response.
Besides her accolades in high school, Kealia also won a national championship during her time at the University of North Carolina. After college, she was drafted by the Houston Dash as the second overall pick in the NWSL College Draft, eventually serving as the team captain from 2016 until her trade to the Chicago Red Stars in 2020.
Earlier this year, the couple purchased a stake in Burnley FC, which played in the Premier League last season.
Interestingly, Kealia’s brother-in-law is Brian Cushing, a former teammate of JJ when they both played for the Houston Texans.
