Adam Johnson, also known as “The Man on the Podium,” was the man who was infamously photographed on January 6th holding a podium bearing the Speaker of the House of Commons Seal and waving happily.
Johnson was later sentenced to 75 days in prison for his role in the Capitol riot.
“I’ve never been to a rally in my life. I didn’t vote for Trump in ’16, but I voted for Trump in ’20,” Johnson tells Pat Gray.
Johnson ultimately voted for Trump because of his anti-war stance.
“I have five sons,” he continues. “I don’t want to see them go to war.”
“You weren’t part of the highly organized rebellion that happened that day, were you?” Gray jokes.
“We weren’t emailing each other saying, ‘This is what we’re going to do, this is what we’re going to do, and ultimately we’re going to destroy America.'”
Johnson didn’t.
Rather, he told Gray, he wandered away from the group during the protest, which became a bit dangerous, and ended up going inside with another group.
“I followed some people inside through an open door,” he explained, adding, “Some were acting stupid, but 95% of us were out there peacefully protesting.” ” he said.
After the protests, it took only a few days for authorities to come knocking.
“I spent four days in isolation and met a judge on Monday,” he explains. He was then sentenced to 75 days in jail, a $5,000 fine, 200 hours of community service, and one year of supervised release.
