California pastor Jack Hibbs is the director of a new Christian film Forge The culture changer is buying up local movie theaters to get his movies to as many people as possible. The senior and founding pastor of Calvary Chapel Chino Hills and founder of Real Life Ministries told his 1.3 million social media followers on Tuesday that he plans to buy theaters in “cities like Los Angeles, Oakland, San Francisco, Stockton, Portland and Seattle” and offer free screenings to inner-city teens and young men.
The film follows the journey of a young man on his wayward path who learns profound lessons about faith and life under the tutelage of a wise elder. It made the top five last weekend.
Filmmakers Alex and Stephen Kendrick say they want to create a discipleship movement within the church.
“I think we can change the church in just one week. I think we can change people in just one week. I think we can change our culture and our inner cities in just one week,” Hibbs said. “God is going to do something.”
Mr Hibbs, who has 1 million followers on Facebook and 384,000 on Instagram, said the filmmakers had “empowered every church in America to reach their message to men and boys”.
“Can we make this a national grassroots movement? We don't need stadiums. We don't need the media,” he said. “We have our people and we have this crazy machine. [smartphones]and we can spread the word. I'm passionate about this. I'm so excited I can't sleep. My heart is breaking about this.
“With this film, I want to reach out to young people in cities who have lost their sense of direction. ForgeDon't wait until it's on Amazon or Netflix, go see it now.”
The film is “evangelistic and disciple-making at the same time,” he said.
“The Kendrick Brothers have given us Bible songs that come to life,” Hibbs said of the film.
“the [a] 100% Bible Based [movie]”My third goal is to start a men's mentoring group.”
