American Hockey Teams Unite
It seems the men’s and women’s hockey teams in the U.S. have come together in a unique way.
Stars Jack Hughes and Megan Keller made an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” recently, sharing their experiences from the upcoming 2026 Olympics in Milan.
Initially, McAfee asked Hughes about Keller, prompting the Devils player to recall a heartfelt moment in the cafeteria. He mentioned hugging the defender after her impressive win in the women’s gold medal match against Canada.
A few days later, following Hughes’ overtime goal for the men’s team, he and Keller snapped a photo together.
“I just hugged her really hard and said, ‘I’m so happy for you,'” Hughes reflected. “You wouldn’t believe the excitement it sparked in me and Quinn (Hughes). We were genuinely thrilled for her.”
Keller, who also joined the show, addressed a recent incident where some players laughed at President Trump’s jokes about the women’s national team. McAfee playfully asked if the women’s team “hated the men’s team.” Keller quickly refuted that claim, confirming Hughes’ cafeteria moment.
She elaborated that both teams relaxed together in the Olympic cafeteria for hours after the men’s victory.
“No, we don’t harbor any ill feelings toward the men’s team,” Keller stated. “After they won, we were hanging out in the cafe with our medals until 4 a.m., just chatting it up.”
“Honestly, I couldn’t have scripted it better. We were a team of destiny,” she added.
Keller’s pivotal moment came when Hilary Knight scored to equalize the intense game, leaving it at 1-1 with Canada. Keller then netted the winning goal with a slick maneuver, securing the gold for Team USA.
For the men’s team, the sequence of events played out differently, but Hughes ensured they achieved a similar outcome. The Americans took the lead, Canada equalized in the second period, and Hughes clinched the win just 1 minute and 41 seconds into overtime.
Based on the exchanges between Hughes and Keller, it looks like the camaraderie between the two teams is quite strong.
