Jack Smith to Start His Own Law Firm with Prosecutors Who Pursued Trump

Special Counsel Jack Smith to Launch New Law Firm

Special Counsel Jack Smith is reportedly setting up a new law firm, collaborating with lawyers who were involved in cases against former President Donald Trump.

This firm will include former prosecutors Thomas Windham and David Harbach, along with Timothy Heaphy, who played a significant role in the House Jan. 6 Committee investigations. Windham assisted in the prosecution related to the 2020 election case against Trump, while Harbach dealt with the issue surrounding confidential documents. It’s said that the firm will focus on trial work and investigations.

In October, two other key members of Smith’s team, Molly Gaston and JP Cooney, established a firm with aims like helping state and local governments enforce laws against corruption, providing criminal defense, and supporting clients under congressional scrutiny.

Meanwhile, both Smith and Windham are facing scrutiny from Republican legislators who are pursuing the Arctic Frost investigation tied to Trump’s indictment.

On December 17, House Judiciary Committee Republicans issued a subpoena for Smith’s private testimony, and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley announced a public hearing scheduled for Monday in 2026 regarding the Arctic Frost matter.

Grassley expressed concerns, stating, “Arctic Frost was a runaway train that dredged up information from hundreds of innocent people simply because of their political affiliations. Congress and the American people want answers, and sunlight is the best disinfectant.” He emphasized the importance of transparency in holding accountable those responsible for the alleged political misconduct.

Additionally, windham was reportedly indicted by the Justice Department in November for obstructing the committee’s investigation into Smith’s office. Windham noted that he felt he had addressed the majority of the questions posed during his testimony.
