Jackie Kennedy ignored Maria Callas’ affair with husband Aristotle Onassis: pal

When Jackie Kennedy learned that her husband Aristotle Onassis was having an affair with Maria Callas, she did what she knew best and turned a blind eye.

The claim was made by Onassis's longtime personal assistant, Kiki Feroudi Moussatsos. her memoir, “Onassis' Women” We will delve deeper into the love triangle.

Callas, the superstar soprano who died in 1977, is the subject of a new biopic starring Angelina Jolie.

“Onassis never stopped seeing Maria,” Moussatsos, 75, told Fox News Digital. “A week after they got married, he came to visit her a number of times, probably three or four times a week. Jackie was very smart, so she quickly realized what was going on. Ta.”

The former first lady consulted her spouse's sister, Artemis Onassis, about the not-so-secret relationship between the shipping magnate and the singer.

“I pretended like I couldn't hear anything,” Moussatsos recalled. “But Artemis told her, 'Don't worry about it, it's common here in Greece.'” Onassis was in love with Jackie, but he was also used to seeing and being with Maria. Ta.”

“Jackie followed Artemis' advice,” she said. “Onassis and Maria were twins. They were inseparable.”

According to bio.comCallas and Onassis met at a party in 1957. It quickly turned into a long romance. The relationship was turbulent, and Onassis eventually turned to the widowed Kennedy.

Onassis married Kennedy in 1968. According to the newspaper, Karas learned of his girlfriend's plans three weeks before the wedding.

Kennedy believed that Onassis' money and power would protect his family. Her first husband, President John F. Kennedy, was assassinated in 1963, followed by her brother-in-law, Robert Kennedy, in 1968.

Moussatsos said she initially wondered why President Kennedy turned a blind eye to Onassis' infidelity. But then she realized this was nothing new for the mother of two.

“Jackie was used to dealing with her ex-husband, the president,” Moussatsos said. “But she also needed a strong man next to her. Onassis was the perfect man. He was able to give not only a sense of security to her, but also to the children. And Onassis was the father of the children's John. I loved Junior and Caroline.”

“I remember that [his private island] “Scorpius, he brought them all kinds of animals and toys to keep them happy,” she said. “And of course Jackie could get everything she wanted too. He was used to giving her lots of surprises.

“I remember he asked me to get a famous jeweler here and bring him the best, most expensive things. We looked at these jewels for hours and looked at them. I tried to find only the best for her.”

“Don't you think women like that? I think so,” she laughed.

Although the women never met, Callas harbored ill feelings toward Onassis's bride. Mr. Moussatsos argued that Mr. Karas and Mr. Onassis often compete over Mr. Kennedy.

“Maria was jealous,” Moussatsos said. “She wanted Onassis to be with her and to be next to her all the time, but that wasn't possible. They were too similar… But Maria was also a very strong character. She was very proud. Jackie was more like a little girl. She was warmer and more feminine. ”

“Maria never liked this relationship with Jackie,” Ms Moussatsos said. “Whenever she was sitting on the boat (Christina, Onassis' yacht), she would read the newspaper or look at pictures of Onassis and Maria. Then there would be a war on the boat.”

Moussatsos pointed out that it is easy to understand why Onassis would want to marry Kennedy.

“I remember the first day I met her,” she said. “She came down the stairs of the house. She looked like a queen, a princess. But she acted like a little girl. She was very polite and had a soft voice.” I remember her being so happy because we started talking.'' Onassis' sister also spoke French, so we started speaking French.

“Jackie was always shy,” she said. “Whenever she called to talk to her husband, she asked me if Mr. Onassis was available. It was never 'I want to talk to my husband.'

Kennedy and Onassis's marriage had problems involving another woman, her daughter-in-law, Christina Onassis.

“Christina and [her brother] Mr. Alexander didn't like her at all,” Ms. Moussatsos said.

“The day Jackie and Onassis got married, it rained all day,” Moussatsos said. “Here in Greece, we believe it's good luck if it's raining and someone gets married. But it wasn't good luck.”

Onassis never left his former lover. Moussatsos said the two remained together until his death in 1975.

“Maria was in despair when Onassis died,” she explained. “I remember she called me almost every day because she wanted to know how to handle this whole situation. She didn't want to see Jackie, she didn't want to see him.” [Onassis’] children. They did not like women to be next to their fathers. It wasn't personal. They believed that one day their father would be reunited with their mother. Maria knew that.

“I helped her reach Skorpios without anyone knowing,” Moussatsos claimed. “She didn't want to live anymore. She thought her life was wasted, because yes, he married Jackie, but she could still be with him. . He's not there now. They were born for each other.”

When Onassis died, Callas had already withdrawn from public life. Karas died of a heart attack at the age of 53. Mr Moussatsos claims the star died of a broken heart.

“There were reports that Maria was on drugs, but that's not true,” she said. “The truth is she's heartbroken.”

After Onassis' death, Ms. Moussatsos remained in touch with Ms. Kennedy, who lived in New York City with her two children. She died there in 1994 at the age of 64.

Moussatsos is currently aiming to republish her memoir. She is also in talks with producers about the possibility of turning the book into a film. Her goal, she said, is to set the record straight.

“This was my family,” she said. “And I just want people to know the truth.”
