Jaclyn Smith Celebrates 80 with Timeless Wisdom
Jaclyn Smith, the iconic star from “Charlie’s Angels,” recently reflected on her journey as she celebrated her 80th birthday, emphasizing that love matters more than makeup.
At the Paley Honors Spring Gala in New York City, she reunited with former co-star Kate Jackson to mark the 50th anniversary of their beloved series.
When asked about her beauty secret, Smith shared, “Living clean and being loved.” She expressed gratitude for her supportive family, saying, “I have the best family: an amazing husband, two wonderful children, and three granddaughters. Nothing could be better. It’s all about love and family for me.”
Smith played Kelly Garrett from the show’s start in 1976 until it concluded in 1981. She looked radiant as she posed on the red carpet at the Plaza Hotel. Sharing a moment with Jackson, Smith reminisced about their show, which debuted nearly 50 years ago.
On social media, she posted a photo from the gala, expressing her happiness to reunite with friends from the Paley Center.
“Kate and I felt fortunate to celebrate 50 years of ‘Charlie’s Angels.’ I’m grateful to still feel part of that legacy,” she remarked.
Fans flooded her social media with compliments, noting how she continues to inspire. Comments ranged from celebrating the anniversary to praising her enduring beauty.
“You are amazing,” one fan wrote, adding that Smith was a significant figure during their upbringing. Another chimed in with “classic beauty,” while others said, “You both don’t seem to age.”
Smith acknowledged the surprising impact “Charlie’s Angels” had on pop culture, stating she didn’t realize the significance until she became a household name.
Reflecting on her early career, Smith mentioned, “I don’t think we realized we were changing perceptions of women at the time.” She feels the show helped pave the way for new roles for women in Hollywood.
The series quickly became a sensation when it premiered in 1976, turning Smith, Jackson, and Farrah Fawcett into stars overnight. Fawcett left after the first season, and Jackson departed after the third, leaving Smith as the only original Angel during all five seasons.
At the gala, Jackson expressed amazement at the show’s lasting popularity. “It’s incredible that ‘Charlie’s Angels’ is still aired globally 50 years later,” she remarked.
Nowadays, Jackson enjoys a quieter life on a farm in Virginia, relishing the peace it brings. “I’d choose the farm over red carpets any day,” she joked, appreciating the relaxed lifestyle away from Hollywood’s hustle. “There’s no pressure, and I like it that way.”
Smith’s own career has spanned over five decades, starting as a model in the 1970s and appearing on shows like “MacLeod” and “The Rookies” before achieving fame on “Charlie’s Angels.”
She received acclaim, including a Golden Globe nomination, for her portrayal of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in a television movie. Having been married four times, Smith found enduring love with surgeon Brad Allen, whom she married in 1997.
