Jaguars let go of major free agent acquisition a year after lackluster performance

In the early hours of Wednesday, JP Acosta shared a piece highlighting NFL veterans who might see less playing time following the teams selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. One name that stood out was Gabe Davis, the wide receiver for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

A few hours later, however, Davis found himself without a job.

The Jaguars announced on Wednesday morning that they had released Davis, who had been with the team for four years, including the 2024 season with the Buffalo Bills. During the 2024 season, Davis played in 10 games, making 20 catches for 239 yards and scoring two touchdowns.

It seemed pretty clear that Davis’s time with Jacksonville was coming to an end, especially given the offseason moves made by the organization. The Jaguars not only signed Diami Brown in free agency, but they also traded up in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft to acquire Travis Hunter Jr. from Colorado, who is versatile enough to play both cornerback and wide receiver.

Previously, under former general manager Trent Barke, Davis had signed a three-year deal that could be worth as much as $39 million. But it appears that Jacksonville is entering a new chapter.

On a related note, the other four players mentioned in JP’s article might want to think about their own futures as the offseason progresses.
