National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that the U.S. will take additional actions in response to earlier airstrikes targeting Iranian-backed militants. He did not say where, including excluding Iran.
Sullivan said, “Following the tragic deaths of three brave service members, the President ordered strikes in Iraq and Syria. These strikes were conducted Friday night and had a positive impact.”
He added: “The president was clear when he ordered them and when he led them that that was the beginning of our response. There will be more steps to come.
Anchor Dana Bash said. Just to be clear, does that mean there will be more strikes in the coming days? ”
Professor Sullivan said: “What this means is that we will take further action. I’m not going to describe the nature of that action. I don’t want to telegraph our punches. “What this means is that we will take further action.” Let’s go.”
Bash asked, “Inside Iran?” Could you please exclude that for now? ”
Sullivan said: “As someone who appears on a national television show, I am not trying to restrict or eliminate any activity. What I am saying is that the president will do what he thinks should be done. But please make the point that he wants to protect our military and not get involved in a war.”
